What song changed you?
Some songs never leave us. They bring back a first crush, an old friend or a feeling we didn’t yet have words for. For writer and performer Ivan Coyote, music offered something more: clues to a queer future they could imagine long before they knew how to find it.
In Playlist, Coyote shares stories of the songs that shaped them, from music drifting out of the kitchen radio to their parents’ record collection and the lyrics of an elementary school musical. With longtime collaborator Clyde Petersen’s animations bringing the stories to life, this performance moves between hilarious and heartbreaking, personal memories and the music that connects us.
By the end, you may find yourself remembering the songs that helped you become who you are.
