Ground Zero

10-Minute Play Festival

From Calgary: Unlike, say, the marriage bed, this remains one place where brevity still counts for something.

Given that avant-garde theatre is apparently neither nerve-wracking nor inspiring enough on its own, this annual test of strength challenges cocky young stage artists to devise, in just 24 measly hours, a playlet of ten minutes' duration that doesn't suck. History tells us that William Shakespeare once attempted this, although he appears to have exploded in the process, which contributed greatly to the mystery surrounding his final place of rest. Maybe he should have stuck to longer works.
