Boca del Lupo & San Banquito Teatro
The Suicide
From Vancouver and Mexico: Muy internacional: A Russian story told in English and Absurdist.
From performances in an underground parking lot to the treetops of Stanley Park, Vancouver's Boca del Lupo-Italian for “mouth of the wolf”-has emerged as one of Canada's leading exponents of surreal physical theatre. Recently they met kindred spirits in the form of San Banquito Teatro, a company from Léon, Mexico. Together, they've adapted a 1920s Soviet satire about an unemployed man who, when a sausage in his pocket is mistaken for a gun, is wrongly presumed to be contemplating suicide. This engaging comedy won the 2004 Alcan Performing Arts Award.
“Boca del Lupo is so consistently innovative that its members must sweat
bullets trying to top themselves” – Vancouver Sun
“Boca del Lupo is one of the most important creative forces in this city” –
Georgia Straight
“Leave it to Boca del Lupo to harness all that spirit into a piece of
extreme theatre that sings from the tree tops and defies all conventions of
the traditional stage…" - Globe and Mail
