KING GESAR

Engineered Air Theatre - January 30 to February 1

From Calgary

Lands EndTreachery and loyalty, truth and deceit, sadness and joy: the Iliad of Central Asia.

This is an epic tale of the legendary Gesar, who eight centuries ago ruled the kingdom of Ling in eastern Tibet—a deified warrior-king who, riding on his winged horse and brandishing magic weapons, discovers the rewards of living a life of profound inner vision and enlightenment. Told in song, chant, verse and prose, this performance features a 6-piece edition of Calgary’s neo-classical chamber ensemble, including duelling grand pianos and narration by the talented Calgary Philharmonic vocalist and bassoonist, Michael Hope.
